An outdated fiberglass shower stall replaced with a custom acrylic walk-in shower, plus new flooring, vanity, lighting, and paint, completed in 5 working days.
The homeowners' small fiberglass shower stall and dated finishes were no longer working for them. Atlas Construction Group took the bathroom down to the essentials and rebuilt it around a custom acrylic walk-in shower with grab bars, a fold-down seat, and matte black fixtures. Plenty of Chambersburg homes still have the bathroom they were built with. This one had the original fiberglass shower stall with a framed sliding door, a cultured-marble vanity top, a wall-mounted light, and flooring that had seen better days. Nothing was broken outright, but stepping over the stall's lip was getting harder, the fiberglass had dulled and was difficult to keep clean, and the space felt cramped and dark.
The homeowners wanted a shower they could use safely for years to come and enjoy being in, and they wanted the rest of the bathroom brought up to date at the same time. They asked Atlas Construction Group to handle the entire project, from demolition to final paint.
The goal wasn't just a cosmetic refresh. The layout, the shower, and the finishes all needed to work better together.
The original one-piece fiberglass unit was narrow, with a space-limiting molded seat, a high step-over threshold, and a bulky framed sliding door. For anyone with limited mobility, that step-in is one of the most common fall risks in the home.
There were no grab bars and nowhere to sit, and the fixed showerhead couldn't be adjusted. The homeowners planned to stay in the house long term and wanted a bathroom that would support that.
The vanity, lighting, and flooring were original to the room, and the walls needed drywall repair once the old fixtures came out. Updating only the shower would have left the rest of the bathroom looking even older.
Why this matters: A step-in shower, no grab bars, and a fixed showerhead are the three things we see most often in bathrooms that no longer fit their owners. Our Accessible Bathroom Guide walks through the options.
Atlas replaced the fiberglass stall with a custom acrylic walk-in shower sized to the existing opening. That kept the project inside the bathroom's current footprint while making the shower easier to enter, safer to use, and far easier to keep clean.
The finished shower has a rain showerhead, a handheld sprayer on an adjustable slide bar, two grab bars, a fold-down seat, corner shelves, and a black-framed sliding glass door, all in matte black. Outside the shower, Atlas installed new flooring, a new vanity, a medicine cabinet, and a new light fixture, then repaired and painted the drywall. The custom acrylic walls and base are from Rev Home Products.
The project followed this sequence:
Atlas met with the homeowners, reviewed their goals, measured the space, and reviewed selections such as fixtures and finish, wall style and color for the custom shower.
The original fiberglass shower unit, flooring, vanity, and lights were removed and hauled away.
Walls were repaired where the old fixtures came out, and the space was prepped for the new shower.
The new base and walls were installed with the rain head, handheld shower, grab bars, fold-down seat, and shelves.
The black-framed sliding glass door was installed and adjusted.
New flooring went down, followed by the vanity, medicine cabinet, and light fixture.
The room was painted, cleaned, and reviewed with the homeowners before sign-off.

The bathroom was completed on schedule, and the homeowners were able to use their new shower right away.
The step-over stall is gone. A low-profile base, grab bars, and a fold-down seat make the shower safer to use every day.
Acrylic walls wipe clean without grout to scrub, replacing the dull fiberglass that was hard to keep clean.
New flooring, vanity, medicine cabinet, lighting, and paint mean the whole bathroom matches the new shower.
Working within the existing footprint kept the project to about a week, with no walls moved.
